Kenya Railways to offer shuttle services to SGR terminus

The railways management says they have set aside five buses to transport travellers to use Madaraka Express.
The buses will leave every morning between 7.30am and 8am so that passengers can make it for the 9am train service.
  1. The same services will also be given in Mombasa where passengers will be ferried from the Mombasa terminus to Kenya Railway offices in Mombasa town and vice versa.
This is, however, a promotion to June 6, 2017, for the Nairobi services. After the promotion ends, the KR will start using the old railway line to ferry people to the city centre in Nairobi.
“We are making arrangements with the old railway line that passes beside the Nairobi terminus such that those coming from Mombasa can connect with it to town,” the management explained.
The corporation plans to release a schedule of the trips by the end of next week.
“During this promotion period, we are working the best timings to offer passengers. We already have a draft but we are also consulting passengers on their preferred timings for travel with Madaraka Express.”
Passengers can buy tickets at the both the Nairobi and Mombasa termini with online ticketing expected to start in two weeks.
The new Chinese-built route is aimed at cementing Kenya’s position as the gateway to East Africa and is billed as the biggest infrastructure project since independence and a key selling point for the ruling Jubilee party ahead of the August elections.
President Uhuru Kenyatta lowered the fare price of the four and a half hours trip for economy class to Sh700 from the Sh900 announced on Monday by Kenya Railways.
Charges for the first class will be Sh3,000
